Do You Still Need Sunscreen in October in Hyderabad?

October in Hyderabad feels milder, but UV still darkens melasma and acne marks. Daily sunscreen still matters on office days, not only at the beach.

Yes. You still need sunscreen in October in Hyderabad.

That is especially true if you have melasma, acne marks, or any pigmentation treatment underway. The heat drops after the monsoon, so people put the bottle away. Ultraviolet light does not follow the thermometer. A mild afternoon can still darken a patch that took months to fade.

This is practical guidance, not a product prescription. The right texture is the one you will actually wear on a workday.

Does Hyderabad sun still affect pigment in October?

Melasma and marks left after acne darken with daylight, including light through a car window and a short walk from the parking area to the clinic. Dussehra week adds outdoor hours: processions, family visits, and Bathukamma gatherings. People who were careful in May often skip protection in October and then see the patches return in November.

Cloud and a pleasant breeze do not cancel that. If you are using a retinoid, a peel, or a laser plan, unprotected October sun is a common reason the result looks uneven. The melasma guide explains why pigment returns when sun habits slip.

03

How should you use it on a normal day?

Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to the face, ears, and neck after moisturiser, before you leave home. A teaspoon-sized amount for the face and neck is a useful household measure. Reapply if you are outside for long stretches. Sitting in an office all day still counts for the commute.

  • Choose a texture you tolerate. A heavy cream you skip is less useful than a light one you wear
  • Do not rely on makeup with SPF as the only layer
  • Cover the neck and the area beside the hairline. Those are where a missed edge shows
  • Reapply before an outdoor Dussehra or Diwali errand, even if you applied it at 8 am
  • Hats and shade help. They do not replace sunscreen on the face

If sunscreen stings, the barrier may be irritated. Fix that before adding acids. A dermatologist can also switch the filter type. Stinging is a reason to change the product, not a reason to stop sun protection entirely.

What if you are treating pigmentation?

Pigmentation laser, laser toning, and chemical peels are discussed only when sun protection is realistic. A course without daily sunscreen is a course that often rebounds. Freckle care follows the same rule.

Dr. S. Madhuri sees patients at AB Skin Clinic in KPHB and Manikonda. Qualifications listed by the clinic are MBBS, MD DVL, DNB DVL, and a Fellowship in Dermatosurgery and Lasers. She matches any procedure to your pigment type and to whether you can protect the skin afterwards.

Indoor workers still need a morning layer. Outdoor workers need reapplication and a plan for sweat. Neither group gets a free pass in October because the season feels softer than May.

Common questions

Is SPF 30 enough in Hyderabad in October?

A broad-spectrum SPF 30, used in a real amount and reapplied when you are outdoors, is a solid daily habit. A higher number does not help if the layer is too thin or you skip the neck. Consistency matters more than chasing a very high label.

Do I need sunscreen if I only drive to work?

Yes, for the face and neck. Daylight through the windscreen and the walk between the car and the door is enough to stir melasma in many people. One morning application covers a typical commute.

Can I stop sunscreen after a laser or peel has finished?

No. Pigment can return with sun and with hormones after a procedure looks complete. Sunscreen is the maintenance, not an optional extra for the treatment month.

If patches are spreading, or you are unsure whether a mark is melasma or something else, book an appointment. Bring the sunscreen you already use. A short look at the label and the amount is often more useful than switching brands again.
