Open Pores Treatment in Hyderabad: Causes, Myths & What Actually Works
Pores look larger with oil, sun, and age, and they do not open and close. Learn what actually helps facial texture, and which pore myths to skip.

“Open pores” is the phrase people use when cheek texture looks dotted in bright light or in a phone camera held too close. The wish is usually for pores to shut. Skin does not work that way. Pores are the openings of hair follicles and oil glands. They do not have muscles that open in heat and close with cold water. What changes is how visible they are.
That distinction matters in Hyderabad, where oil, humidity, dust, and sun all make texture easier to see. Treatment can make pores look finer. It cannot delete them.
Why pores look larger
Genetics set the baseline. Some families have coarser follicle openings on the nose and inner cheeks. Androgens and naturally oily skin fill those openings with sebum, so they catch light and look wider. Blackheads are oxidised oil and debris sitting in the opening, not dirt from the city that a harsher soap will dissolve.
Sun damage loosens the collagen that props the pore wall. Over years the opening slumps and looks larger even if oil is only moderate. This is why pores often bother people more in their thirties than in their teens, and why a routine aimed only at “oil control” plateaus.
Acne and picking stretch openings. A squeezed blackhead can leave a wider pore or a tiny scar that is then blamed on the product that came afterwards. Thick comedogenic creams and some hair oils along the hairline add plugs that make the dot darker and more obvious.
Hyderabad’s climate exaggerates the picture. Heat increases sebum. Dust sticks to it. Humidity in the rains stops people using moisturiser, then they over-cleanse, the barrier suffers, and the surface looks rough as well as shiny. Ice cubes and cold splash photos feel tightening for minutes because of temporary swelling changes. By afternoon the same pores are back.
Myths that keep texture stuck
Pores cannot be “closed” with toner. Alcohol toners can degrease the surface so makeup sits better for an hour, then dryness and rebound oil follow. Steam facials swell the skin and empty a few plugs. They do not remodel collagen, and frequent steaming can irritate.
Pore strips pull out surface debris and a little hair. Used often they irritate the nose and do not change pore size. DIY suction devices bruise capillaries for a similar short-lived clean.
There is no cream that permanently shrinks a genetically large pore to invisibility. Claims with a percentage “pore reduction” from a brand study should be read as marketing until a dermatologist sees your skin. This article will not borrow those numbers.
Scrubbing grains polish flakes and scratch. On Indian skin, that scratch can leave dark marks, so the cheek looks worse in photographs even if it felt smooth for a day.
What actually helps
Care works in layers: empty the plug, protect the collagen you still have, and, if needed, use procedures that remodel the surface slightly.
Daily steps that are worth more than a new gadget:
- A gentle cleanser twice a day, not a scrub
- A retinoid, introduced slowly, which is the topical most dermatologists rely on for comedones and the look of pores over months
- Salicylic acid in a leave-on or cleanser form if you are oily and not already irritated
- Sunscreen every morning, because ultraviolet damage is what enlarges the opening over time
- Non-comedogenic moisturiser so the barrier stays intact and you do not chase oil with more washing
Blackhead extraction belongs in a clinic, done sparingly, not as a nightly ritual with metal tools.
Procedures are for people who have already done the basics and still see texture that bothers them. Open pores treatment may include carefully chosen chemical peels, microneedling, or laser and energy devices that improve collagen support around the follicle. Expect a softer look, not erased dots. Sessions are spaced. A tan, active cysts, or a stinging barrier are reasons to wait, especially in strong Hyderabad sun, because irritation can pigment the same cheeks you wanted smoother.
Treating acne comes first if new comedones are still forming. Shrinking the look of pores while new ones are being stretched is backwards. Pigment and true acne scars are related complaints but not the same job. A pit from old acne will not answer to pore strips.
A realistic standard
Judge texture in daylight at arm’s length, not in a magnified front camera. Makeup will sit better when plugs are fewer, even if follicles are still visible. That is a successful outcome for many people.

You can book an appointment if pores remain your main concern after a simple routine, or if home suction and scrubs have left you red. Bring the products you use, including nose strips and oils. Ask what degree of change is reasonable for your skin, and what maintenance keeps it. Visible pores are part of skin. The achievable goal is cleaner, better-supported openings — and a plan that does not injure the cheek in the attempt to make them vanish.
